Catalog Description:
First of a two-quarter series. Not for biochemistry or chemistry majors and may not be accepted by professional schools that require organic chemistry. Introduction to structure, nomenclature, properties, and reactions of organic compounds with a focus on alkenes, alkynes, and alkyl halides. Stereochemistry and spectroscopy. No more than 5 credits from the following may count toward graduation requirements: CHEM 220, CHEM 223, CHEM 237, CHEM 257. Prerequisite: a minimum grade of 1.7 in either CHEM 152, CHEM 153, or CHEM 155. Offered: AS.
